Psalms

I have posted my sermons from the last two weeks at the GCBC website, if you care to listen to them (Psalm 122, Psalm 88). Sorry, the Psalm 122 one was a bit of a mess. My fault for trying something different.

Eleven days

In the next eleven days, I am:

Leading the kids’ lesson at Bible study tonight
Leading the adults’ lesson at Bible study tonight
Filling out some bank forms
Fighting with another financial institution or two over a lost receipt
Preparing and teaching adult Sunday School
Preparing and preaching Sunday’s sermon
Serving the Lord’s Supper
Making up for lost Mothers’ and Fathers’ Days with [...]

Giving

Pastor Rob preached a very good sermon. It wasn’t groundbreaking, in the sense that he brought out any novel interpretation of Scripture; however, it did clearly declare the conditions in which those who are in Christ are to give. It was really good. They’re all good but this one really stood out. [...]

Sinclair Ferguson on sin-preaching vs. Christ

Sinclair Ferguson: For preachers it’s much easier to seek to bring about conviction of sin and expose sin than to magnify and glory in the Lord Jesus. (This is similar to something I said this week in my sermon.)

Updates

I preached the Resurrection Day sermon at GCBC. Notable comments were “hey, this fits on just one audio CD” and “I can’t believe you preached the whole chapter.”
As you can see from the sidebar Twitter, I’m about to go below 200 pounds, for the first time in at least five years. This isn’t [...]

Graphing Ephesians 1

Here is a look at one of my attempts to prepare a sermon for this weekend. This has been discarded, by the way.

Click on the picture to get the whole diagram; the above is just the detail around the “Christ” box.
Someday, if I can find some software that will generate a relationship diagram like [...]

Faith Alone

I preached Sunday morning’s sermon at GCBC. Probably the most straightforward and hardest-hitting gospel presentation I have ever made in my life… and at the end of it I had two kids come up and comment on how they thought for a while that I was yelling at them. I responded, as straight-faced [...]

Spirit and Scripture

I preached the first of two sermons leading up to Reformation Day today. It’s sort of a “we need a new Reformation, and it’s the same as the old Reformation” theme, but I wasn’t obvious about it, I don’t think.
It moves fast, and I would encourage people who care to look up the passages [...]

This blog’s like the Legend of Zelda series

I mean, there’s just one link, followed by another, followed by another…
OK, bad joke. But obviously all actual content here is getting swallowed by occasional links and brief commentary. Why is that?
I’ll let my co-conspirators tell their own tale, if they like. In my own case, TIWIARN (This Is Where I Am [...]

Why Judas?

Last Sunday, Pastor Arden Hodgins preached a sermon entitled “Why Judas?” in which he gave eleven reasons why Jesus chose Judas Iscariot as a disciple despite knowing Judas’ heart and destiny. It was one of the finer sermons I’ve heard Pastor Arden preach.
I especially appreciated his fourth reason (which was borrowed from J.C. Ryle [...]

The holiness of God’s servant

I preached yesterday morning for the second of three weeks at Grace Community Bible Church, if you’re interested. Only 45 minutes, if you can believe that.

The root of worry

Last Sunday Pastor Arden Hodgins preached a sermon on the root of worry (MP3). I’d recommend listening to it; I found it quite edifying. This coming Sunday will feature the second half.
Update: The second half is available here (MP3).

The Cross of Reconciliation

Once again I preached at Grace Community Bible Church. This time it was only an hour, but the chaos that ensued from trying to reconcile the three different outlines I ended up with made this sermon… not one of my better public speaking moments. Still, if you care, give it a listen.

For what it’s worth

I preached at Grace Community Bible Church today.

Elders

What should elders be, and how should we treat them? Good sermon by Pastor Rob today.
