Sysadmin Appreciation Day

Yippee skippy, it’s System Administrator Appreciation Day. (My employer’s appreciation has been shown to me this year by allowing me to keep my job.)

Just a kid at heart

Those who know me well probably already know that I’m a big fan of comics and cartoons and comic books and animations and cartoon or comic strips and all that stuff which most adults would likely relegate to the annals of their childhood. So, for what it’s worth, if anything, I thought I’d give you [...]

Wordle

I haven’t shown anybody, and I do mean anybody, my NaNoWriMo novel yet. It needs a lot of work. But I did Wordle it, if you’re curious.

Eleven days

In the next eleven days, I am:

Leading the kids’ lesson at Bible study tonight
Leading the adults’ lesson at Bible study tonight
Filling out some bank forms
Fighting with another financial institution or two over a lost receipt
Preparing and teaching adult Sunday School
Preparing and preaching Sunday’s sermon
Serving the Lord’s Supper
Making up for lost Mothers’ and Fathers’ Days with [...]

Permanent link for weight loss chart

Rather than bore you all on an ongoing weekly basis with my progress on Atkins, I’ll just quietly (or not so quietly, if something surprising happens) update this permanent page on the site with my progress.

In the midst of pain and hurt

I thank God and rejoice even for pain and hurt.
I don’t mean I rejoice in pain and hurt, because these might be great evils. But I mean that I rejoice within the midst of pain and hurt, because by his grace I know that God is in the midst with me like he was [...]

Can’t stop now

Last week in weight loss wasn’t so great after getting below 200 and all the fanfare. But this week is looking up. All the weekly stats after the jump.

Monitor fail

I’ve had three computer displays fail me (on three separate computers, in two locations) in the last three weeks. My main display at home died yesterday; my laptop screen quit working last week, and my backup monitor died a few weeks ago. This is frustrating. I may be reduced to Twittering my [...]

Regarding eggs

So, I’m throwing this out to the Lazyweb. Please speak up if you have something to share; I need feedback on this.
As you all know by now, I’m on a low-carb diet. And one of the greatest things about low-carb is that you can eat eggs. In fact, you are encouraged to [...]

How I am losing the weight

Having hit 199.5 pounds on the scale this morning for the first time in over five years, it is now time to reveal my secret. What is Diet #2 on the sidebar, and what is the exercise program?
First a little history. I have tried a few diets. My biggest problem is sustainability. [...]

Updates

I preached the Resurrection Day sermon at GCBC. Notable comments were “hey, this fits on just one audio CD” and “I can’t believe you preached the whole chapter.”
As you can see from the sidebar Twitter, I’m about to go below 200 pounds, for the first time in at least five years. This isn’t [...]

Graphing Ephesians 1

Here is a look at one of my attempts to prepare a sermon for this weekend. This has been discarded, by the way.

Click on the picture to get the whole diagram; the above is just the detail around the “Christ” box.
Someday, if I can find some software that will generate a relationship diagram like [...]

New exercise routine

As you can see, however, I’ve started a new exercise routine, and I’m hoping to see results in the next couple of weeks.

Granola, two years later

It’s been over two years now since I posted The Granola Gospel.
Nothing has changed. The people who refused to “eat real food,” still refuse. And they are dying. In one case, physically, as well as spiritually.
Wake up, sleepers, and rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Joshua and Tiffany White.

Celery Boy

I do enjoy this webcomic. The writer really captures a lot of the essence of all these characters (including the ten we know as the Doctor). And at the moment it really makes me miss Six. He was better than I gave him credit for.

Below average

This last week wasn’t my best:

Still, it wasn’t my worst, either. But in weeks when I have lost weight, it was the worst of those. I can’t wait for this weather to stabilize.

Losses are gaining

More of the same, yes, but it’s a little better than usual:

Which brings my average loss to over two pounds per week now.
Someday I’ll get back to spiritual blogging, but at the moment I’m just thanking God that the numbers continue to drop.

Seven weeks and counting

As you can see, I stopped doing weekly updates after Week Four or so. It had pretty much just become more of the same. Overall, I have lost weight every week, and according to the scale, as of this morning, I have lost exactly twenty-five pounds since the beginning of the year.
Only once [...]

Funniest thing I’ve heard all year

Last night at Patrick’s birthday dinner:
X described to us the feeling of sleeping in a rice paddy during his military service, and being told that there was a very large spider hanging over his head.
Y [arachnophobe]: “Wow. I’d have to change my sheets.”
Z [X's wife]: “Sheets? You’d have sheets while sleeping in a [...]
