New theme

Like the new look? I saw Shades of Gray at the Sandbox Design Competition and I thought that it would be a nice addition to the site.

Stay tuned

I’ll be upgrading the blog to Wordpress 2.6 soon, so don’t be surprised if things look funny sometimes in the next day or two.
(And with this, I have a chance of keeping at least one post on our front page! And there was not much rejoicing.)
Update: Actually, I’m done, I think. It went [...]

What’s in a name?

Apparently we have a new poll. Check it out.

Upgrade

As if you were interested (I know a couple of you are, at least), I upgraded TOOT to WordPress 2.5. It’s nice, overall. The only major functionality I think I lost was Wavatars, and to be honest, while on a mostly guy-oriented site like Shamus Young’s you can get away with people having [...]

Monitor fail

I’ve had three computer displays fail me (on three separate computers, in two locations) in the last three weeks. My main display at home died yesterday; my laptop screen quit working last week, and my backup monitor died a few weeks ago. This is frustrating. I may be reduced to Twittering my [...]

Redesign in progress

Obviously the blog has changed its look a bit. My biggest two problems are:

The information that came with the “asides” is gone. So far I’ve had trouble getting it back.
My tables look terrible; the borders have disappeared. I can’t find this in the CSS yet, so I’m not sure why this is [...]

More short updates

The Doctor Who Christmas special this year pulled in its biggest numbers since 1979, which means that it even beat out the episode “Rose,” the first of the new series. One source said that it will play in the US in “early 2008″ but I don’t believe it for a minute.
Sandbox 1.2 is out, [...]

Wavatars!

I have installed Shamus Young’s Wavatar plugin. If you have a Gravatar, it will use that instead. If you don’t, it will generate a Wavatar for you based on your email address.
Mine is incredibly ugly.
Comment below if you want to see what yours would look like. Theoretically, they should be the same [...]

Book-writing poll

I put a new poll up on the sidebar, for what it’s worth.

Another anniversary

On the 4th, we will start our fourth year of blogging here.
I don’t have any idea what the future holds. Not a clue.
In other news, I’ve been in love with my wife for ten years now.
Sometimes it doesn’t seem like that long. And sometimes I can’t remember life without her.

Fire!

We love TeamPyro. Thanks to Phil Johnson and the Pyromaniacs for adding us to their blogroll. (Wow, we even got a boldface.)

Blog software upgraded

If things seem a bit weird or slow, that could be because I just took the software that drives this website up to Wordpress 2.3. (I delayed because it took until this weekend for the poll plugin to update for compatibility.)
Wow, tags. I have really jumped on the bandwagon late for that one. [...]

Six notes here and there

First, let me point out that I am going to have to close comments on older posts, because the spam is getting to me. I will still leave comments open on newer posts.
Second, I had a sleep study this weekend. I slept very badly on a rock-hard mattress with 28 wires attached to [...]

Brave Sir Robin

Matt Gumm has “c’mon, man”-ed me about my lack of comments here.
As my readers know, I have never allowed comments regularly here. I have turned them on for occasional posts, where I was inviting conversation, and sometimes all I heard was the crickets chirping, and once it turned into a free-for-all with a lot [...]
