Psalms

I have posted my sermons from the last two weeks at the GCBC website, if you care to listen to them (Psalm 122, Psalm 88). Sorry, the Psalm 122 one was a bit of a mess. My fault for trying something different.

Eleven days

In the next eleven days, I am:

Leading the kids’ lesson at Bible study tonight
Leading the adults’ lesson at Bible study tonight
Filling out some bank forms
Fighting with another financial institution or two over a lost receipt
Preparing and teaching adult Sunday School
Preparing and preaching Sunday’s sermon
Serving the Lord’s Supper
Making up for lost Mothers’ and Fathers’ Days with [...]

Giving

Pastor Rob preached a very good sermon. It wasn’t groundbreaking, in the sense that he brought out any novel interpretation of Scripture; however, it did clearly declare the conditions in which those who are in Christ are to give. It was really good. They’re all good but this one really stood out. [...]

Farewell, GCBC!

If I were a Time Lord, I’d only have one heart left now; the other one I’ve left in Highland with all of you.
Thanks for taking in a stranger, showing him such care and love, and even so graciously accepting him as part of the GCBC family for a season. I don’t know how [...]

Faith Alone

I preached Sunday morning’s sermon at GCBC. Probably the most straightforward and hardest-hitting gospel presentation I have ever made in my life… and at the end of it I had two kids come up and comment on how they thought for a while that I was yelling at them. I responded, as straight-faced [...]

Spirit and Scripture

I preached the first of two sermons leading up to Reformation Day today. It’s sort of a “we need a new Reformation, and it’s the same as the old Reformation” theme, but I wasn’t obvious about it, I don’t think.
It moves fast, and I would encourage people who care to look up the passages [...]

The holiness of God’s servant

I preached yesterday morning for the second of three weeks at Grace Community Bible Church, if you’re interested. Only 45 minutes, if you can believe that.

Is there anybody in there?

Although far from being a godly song, I used to identify a lot with “Comfortably Numb” from Pink Floyd’s album The Wall.
Hello
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me
Is there anyone at home?
In some ways I feel numb now, but not numb from shock or anything terrible that is happening. Nothing [...]

My church now has a web forum

Check out the GCBC Forum. It doesn’t have anything in it yet, but who knows what will happen?

The Cross of Reconciliation

Once again I preached at Grace Community Bible Church. This time it was only an hour, but the chaos that ensued from trying to reconcile the three different outlines I ended up with made this sermon… not one of my better public speaking moments. Still, if you care, give it a listen.

For what it’s worth

I preached at Grace Community Bible Church today.

Even more excuses

This month I am:

Preaching twice (the next two Sundays at GCBC)
Leading a group discussion on Friday night, 27 October, at the church
Writing another article for the church newsletter on apologetics
Watching the kids more often now that Tracey’s got her own business going

…and the result is, I’m not going to have a lot of time for [...]

Elders

What should elders be, and how should we treat them? Good sermon by Pastor Rob today.

GCBC on FIRE

My church is now a member of FIRE (The Fellowship of Independent Reformed Evangelicals)! In fact, we’re the first church listed on the first link above, and we have no connection other than membership in FIRE with the other church, which is also called Grace Community Bible Church. How’s that for confusing?

Hard to watch

After reading this at Matt Gumm’s blog I had to Google around a bit and find out what was going on. The convergence is pretty big for me; I am a Reformed Baptist homeschooling person who has been on the wrong end of bad teaching and practice from church leadership. This link to [...]
