Wordle

I haven’t shown anybody, and I do mean anybody, my NaNoWriMo novel yet. It needs a lot of work. But I did Wordle it, if you’re curious.

Lundgaard blogging thru Le Petit Prince

Kris Lundgaard is blogging chapter by chapter through The Little Prince. It has remained one of my favorite books ever since we first read it in French class. (For what it’s worth, I made a quick comment in his combox about my short-lived drawing “career,” too.)
By the way, I also want to plug [...]

Flying Purple People Thetan

So, I need to learn to communicate better. Everybody knows that I have trouble following conversations, making eye contact, and so forth. I resist the suggestion that I might be on the autism spectrum, so what is the alternative? Perhaps I can find a role model. Somebody who has struggled to [...]

Wikihistory

This (very) short story is good enough that I want you to go read it right away. “Everybody kills Hitler on their first trip.” It almost deals with theodicy, while we’re at it. (HT: jwz.)

Mohler on Pullman

Mohler has a lot to say about Pullman and His Dark Materials (the trilogy of books that starts with The Golden Compass, just coming out to theaters). (Also, see our new poll about this on the sidebar.)

Plucked from the jaws of defeat

I did it!

With just over three hours to spare (and 90 words).
The book is far from done. Two of the four plot lines were left completely dangling in the middle. And one looked like it was over, but just joined up with the fourth one.
What is it about fiction? I always start [...]

NaNoLoser

Being sick for five days has probably taken me out of the running. I haven’t updated more than 900 words in the last week. I’d have to kick in about 8000 words today, and the same tomorrow, to finish. And I still have a job.
But I think I will try anyway. [...]

The halfway point

I’ve cleared 25000 words, with two days to spare to the midpoint of the month.
I was going to be rather proud of my achievement, until I noticed that Calvindude is about 5000 words away from the end. Zowie.
In other news, though, I think that I’m just wrapping up the first act, but I don’t [...]

Things I wish I knew for NaNoWriMo

Things I wish I would have learned about before starting a novel about aliens saving the world from an asteroid (it’s better than it sounds, I think):

Volcanic ash composition
The irregularity of the moon’s orbit, and what would happen if the orbit became more elliptical
Metal composition of the core and mantle of our planet
Likely weather patterns [...]

NaNoWriMo

If you haven’t been following my Twitter feed, then you may not know that I have been doing something a little crazy this month. To be specific, I’m trying to write a 50,000 word novel entirely in the month of November. We’re not talking final product, here; merely the first draft. Apparently [...]

Sympathy for toasters

For those who do not know, all three of the authors on this blog are fans of the new Battlestar Galactica.
Unfortunately, we all became fans long after the series started. So we watched the miniseries and seasons 1 and 2 on DVD, and some of us watched season “2.5″ on iTunes, and some on [...]

The Granola Gospel

Imagine with me if you will that food is free, and what you get to eat depends on where you go. For example, there are a number of all-you-can-eat restaurants around; some serve mostly fast food, which is fine once in a while but when eaten too much makes you fat and sick. [...]
