Veith and Doctor Who

I have been enjoying following Gene Veith for the last few months (even when he repeats the canard that Calvinists aren’t Christ-centered, yadda yadda yadda), but I think he earned a permanent spot in my newsreader when I discovered that he’s into Doctor Who.

Everything comes together

There are spoilers. Oh, boy, are there spoilers. I would be sore about the spoilers, but I’m just too gobsmacked by what I saw here. Every Doctor Who spinoff (SJA, Torchwood) comes together here.
Following is the trailer for “The Stolen Earth”:

Fading like a Rose

This is a review, containing spoilers, for the Doctor Who episode “Partners in Crime,” which aired in the US about a week and a half ago (what can I say, I’m behind).

Unsinkable

Lacking my favorite literary-pretentious expositions of Doctor Who episodes since the end of Series Two, I have decided to try my hand. Thankfully, the US is only three weeks or so behind the UK this time around, although the Christmas special was nearly four months back.

God vs. Doctor Who, and a common mistake

I am lifting this out of my shared links to point out an opportunity to think about worldview and apologetics.
The headline is “Man Finds God, And It’s Not ‘Doctor Who.’” I like SyFy Portal, but I admit that I don’t agree with the author of this piece, Michal Hinman, about much outside of science [...]

Celery Boy

I do enjoy this webcomic. The writer really captures a lot of the essence of all these characters (including the ten we know as the Doctor). And at the moment it really makes me miss Six. He was better than I gave him credit for.

Time Crash

Doggone it Charlie and Tracey! I love Doctor Who now. It’s seriously my fave TV show these days. You guys stink.

Don’t say goodbye

Sarah Jane is making an appearance in Series Four. Is there anybody who has appeared in the recent past who won’t be in Series Four? Adam? Lynda with a Y? That couple who were getting married in “Father’s Day”? They could just bring back Mel from the Six/Seven days and [...]

More short updates

The Doctor Who Christmas special this year pulled in its biggest numbers since 1979, which means that it even beat out the episode “Rose,” the first of the new series. One source said that it will play in the US in “early 2008″ but I don’t believe it for a minute.
Sandbox 1.2 is out, [...]

TWoP on Series Three

Jacob has recapped Series Three of Doctor Who. It’s way shorter, one sixteen-page post instead of thirteen of them. You can’t even begin to read this unless you’re ready for spoilers for the whole series. Typical Jacob, which you may consider good or bad. A little over-the-top for this series, but [...]

Star Trek XI plot rumors

Some rumors re: the plot of Star Trek XI.
Speaking of scifi flicks, why doesn’t someone make a proper Doctor Who movie as well?

Tales from the crypt

Blech!
Some of my old posts on TOOT sure do make me cringe when I re-read them. For instance, I remember this one from about a year and a half ago. The context is that Matt Gumm had posted his “ten simple pleasures” and then tagged or asked the TOOT members to respond. [...]

Ten plus Five

David Tennant is going to join Peter Davison this year, in character, for the Children in Need special.

I hope it ends up on next year’s DVD!

BBC releases Dr. Who ebooks

BBCi quietly released some Dr. Who ebooks, that can be read online. (Thanks to Amber for the link.)

Miss Jones saves the world

Tonight, on SciFi, the end of the Third Series of Doctor Who. (Spoilers for Season Two follow.)

Maybe not Branagh, but still…

Patrick Stewart as Claudius and David Tennant as Hamlet? I wish I could be there.

The man in the box vs. the Man on the cross

Speaking as a Christian and a Doctor Who fan, I find this to be completely stupid, an exercise in misdirection that takes glory away from Christ. I mean, the Doctor is fun to watch because he’s so human; Jesus as depicted in the Bible would have both saved Rose and made her like Him… [...]

Here comes the bride

We’ve been waiting seven months, but finally, the time has come.
Doctor Who starts again tonight on SciFi in the US, with the 2006 Christmas special “The Runaway Bride.” This is immediately followed with the first official episode of the new season, “Smith and Jones.”
Some of you may have Vulcan ears in your bedrooms, or [...]

Tale of the tin dog

(This post is not about Doctor Who, but it does hinge on a phrase which is a bit of a spoiler in David Tennant’s first season, episode “School Reunion.” Sorry about that.)
I think I’m finally finding my place in the Body of Christ. I’m the tin dog.
Quick explanation: in the late seventies [...]

Getting old

I just discovered that the actor who plays the current regeneration of Doctor Who, David Tennant, is 35 years old.
I am 34. I am only a year younger than the current Doctor.
This suggests that there is a very good chance that within the next couple of regenerations (if the series continues to live on) [...]
