Boo-hoo

Doulogos: zounds, he doesn’t mince words! “But what of the person who finds themselves with no other alternative but to attend a church where they believe differently? I say, hogwash to that. No other alternative? Pffft. Look you lazy sloth, the Queen of Sheba crossed half the earth to listen to King Saul speak, [...]

It’s all about me

Do you remember this short video called “Me Church”?

Well, now that we have the church, we need the music! So here’s the worship team of Me Church aka Me Worship, featuring well-known songs such as “Now I lift my name on high,” “There is none like me,” “Oh come let us adore me,” and [...]

Psalms

I have posted my sermons from the last two weeks at the GCBC website, if you care to listen to them (Psalm 122, Psalm 88). Sorry, the Psalm 122 one was a bit of a mess. My fault for trying something different.

Eleven days

In the next eleven days, I am:

Leading the kids’ lesson at Bible study tonight
Leading the adults’ lesson at Bible study tonight
Filling out some bank forms
Fighting with another financial institution or two over a lost receipt
Preparing and teaching adult Sunday School
Preparing and preaching Sunday’s sermon
Serving the Lord’s Supper
Making up for lost Mothers’ and Fathers’ Days with [...]

Churches going to the dogs

Oddly enough, something like this came up in our apologetics class at church last night.

Sabbath poll

New poll about the Sabbath in the sidebar. You can check up to 4 options if none of them actually fit what you believe.

Granola, two years later

It’s been over two years now since I posted The Granola Gospel.
Nothing has changed. The people who refused to “eat real food,” still refuse. And they are dying. In one case, physically, as well as spiritually.
Wake up, sleepers, and rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.

We are not onions

From a 2004 sermon by John Piper (sorry for the lengthy quote, but it sets the stage):
Second, individuality is valued in Christ. Look at verse 5 again and focus on the second half of the verse: “So we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.”
One could ague that Paul’s [...]

Something which has never existed

Turk: “I think many people are simply looking for something which has never existed in the history of time and space, and our expectations of others are too high and of ourselves are too low. That is: we want to find a church that makes us holy and perfect rather than seeing that Christ [...]

To know one another

James White makes an excellent point in his latest post: “shepherds must know their sheep to be able to fulfill their duties as shepherds.”
Speaking more broadly, that is, about Christians in general, when we become Christians, we become part of a community, part of a family. And in order to love one another as [...]

The Granola Gospel

Imagine with me if you will that food is free, and what you get to eat depends on where you go. For example, there are a number of all-you-can-eat restaurants around; some serve mostly fast food, which is fine once in a while but when eaten too much makes you fat and sick. [...]
