Red Mountain Church Music interview

This deserves a spot front and center on our weblog: Trevin Wax interviews my hands-down favorite Christian music “group,” Red Mountain Church Music, hailing from Birmingham, Alabama.

Although I believe they’ve composed their own stuff, Red Mountain Church Music is primarily known for, as Trevin describes, “tak[ing] old hymn texts and put[ting] them to new music.” A couple of the ones I most appreciate are “There is a fountain filled with blood” (William Cowper), “Pensive, doubting, fearful heart” (John Newton), and “No sweeter subject” (John Newton). Not only is the music sublime but there’s a beauty in their voice which draws me in, humbles me, and causes me to joyfully thank the Lord as my heart sings along with the lyrics.

Red Mountain Church Music has released five CDs so far — each of which I own and love. Also, they’ve made some of their b-sides available for free download.

Honestly, I can’t recommend their music highly enough. I’d suggest starting with The Gadsby Project if you’re unsure which one to purchase first. Or just get all of them at the same time like I did! ;-)

Red Mountain Church Music is the absolute best.
