No rest for the wicked

Next in Hebrews 3 we come to a section which implores us to enter into our rest. Strangely, I have seen a few commentators take the result of this argument in Heb. 4:9 and claim that this passage supports the ongoing requirement of Christians to keep the Sabbath (in some sense that includes resting [...]

Can’t get away from Him

I was reading Hebrews 3 this morning, and came across this:
Hebrews 3:1-6 Listen

3:1 Therefore, holy brothers, you who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession, 2 who was faithful to him who appointed him, just as Moses also was faithful in all God’s house. 3 For Jesus has been counted [...]

Redesign in progress

Obviously the blog has changed its look a bit. My biggest two problems are:

The information that came with the “asides” is gone. So far I’ve had trouble getting it back.
My tables look terrible; the borders have disappeared. I can’t find this in the CSS yet, so I’m not sure why this is [...]

Congratulations

Congratulations to Joshua and Tiffany White.

Lunar tautology

We are told that “Igor Brown of NASA’s Johnson Space Center says cyanobacteria are tough enough to survive and thrive in a lunar environment as long as they have water, air, and sunlight.” You know, I think I could probably get a lot of things to grow in a lunar environment, too, under those [...]

Bible meme

I just saw this over at Jeremy Pierce’s weblog. I hope he doesn’t mind if I crash the party.
1. What translation of the Bible do you like best?
I like the ESV best, the NASB(95) as a close second, and the TNIV third.
2. Old or New Testament?
God forbid I’m a closet heretical Marcionite (although that [...]

Perseveration

Apparently, this is what happens when people spend a lot of time with Line Rider (here’s the one I played back in the day, and here’s the current version):
Line Rider ‘Transcendental™’ by TechDawg from TechDawg on Vimeo.
Just… wow. HT: Shamus Young.

On Viewing a Body

A touching essay by Matt Jenson: On Viewing a Body. A beautiful intersection of theology and “real life.”

Left Behind with Obama?

This was crazy enough that it even made me rock back a second and question my eschatology. Read the post above it, then the comment to which I link. (HT: Patrick.)

Stuff white people like

I’m sorry to all my white peep friends (both of you), but this website is hilarious! (Although, dude, what’s up with #11? That’s messed up.) Yeah, yeah, maybe I’ll do penance later by making a website about stuff Asian people like such as Hello Kitty, souping up their rice rockets, hating on [...]

“Love and Marriage: Luther Style”

Not only did I find Justin Taylor’s article “Love and Marriage: Luther Style” an interesting and informative piece, but it was simply hilarious as well (e.g. Luther boasting, “If I break wind in Wittenberg they smell it in Rome”; the story about Katie wearing a black dress)! And, for what it’s worth, here is [...]

The cross isn’t sexy

Here is a must-read testimony from Timmy Brister. Keep on contending for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints, brother!

Walk like a man

Jesus Christ said, “Get up, take up your bed, and walk” (John 5:8).
A man may fail (because of his own fault and sins or because of things which have nothing to do with him), but he doesn’t wallow in self-pity about it. He doesn’t navel gaze or wring his hands. To do so [...]

Tim Keller at Google

Tim Keller does the best-ever-attended “Author Talk” at Google. (HT: Challies.)

Geldof on Bush’s legacy in Africa

This is completely fascinating. It may surprise you. Bob Geldof writing about President Bush in Africa. (HT: Justin Taylor.)

God, turn up the heat!

Some words from a former hospital chaplain on the topic of grief (excerpted from his book, Grieving: Our Path Back to Peace, pp. 73-74):
As I visited suffering people all through the hospital, I was sharing with them God’s closeness, God’s comfort, and all of this is based upon the clear biblical teaching that God has [...]

Celery Boy

I do enjoy this webcomic. The writer really captures a lot of the essence of all these characters (including the ten we know as the Doctor). And at the moment it really makes me miss Six. He was better than I gave him credit for.

Still, it wasn’t my worst, either. But in weeks when I have lost weight, it was the worst of those. I can’t wait for this weather to stabilize.

You spin me right round, baby, right round

Turns out that apparently the Coriolis effect has nothing to do with the direction water spins down the drain.

Princess theology

Good review of the whole “princess” fad in evangelicalism today. (HT: Challies.)

Fast Apologetics

James White put a short (3-3/4 minute) but powerful presentation up on YouTube. He shares three commonly misused verses, one each by Mormons, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and Oneness Pentecostals and how those Scriptures should be properly understood. Yet another awesome resource from Dr. White.

Hays to Moreland

Steve Hays responds to J.P. Moreland. Good enough not to just throw it into the “interesting links” box; a detailed critique of how Christians are led by God (or not) is included, too, and that makes it worth more than the price of admission.

Hard to feel sorry

“HORROR NIGHT AT THE PLAZA,” the headline blares. The horror was that a wealthy woman was trapped in a room with some garbage cans for seven hours, accidentally, while her Fabergé egg was unprotected in her unlocked room down the hall. Was this worth “bloody hands… screaming… breaking down… weeping”? I’d forgive [...]
