Walk like a man

Jesus Christ said, “Get up, take up your bed, and walk” (John 5:8).

A man may fail (because of his own fault and sins or because of things which have nothing to do with him), but he doesn’t wallow in self-pity about it. He doesn’t navel gaze or wring his hands. To do so would be to indulge in sin. (Not to mention possibly cause others to lose respect for him.)

Instead, although he may be greatly hurt and shed many tears from the failure (there’s nothing wrong with a man crying), and although he may need the comfort and support of loved ones for a time (there’s nothing wrong with a man leaning on others), he ultimately fixes his eyes on Christ, trusts in God and his Word, gets up, and moves forward with what Christ would have him to do. He appraises his situation in light of God’s Word and will, sets goals accordingly, and pursues them. Whatever his hand finds to do in the Lord, he does it with all his might (Ecc. 9:10).

Again, he does not wallow in sinful self-pity, but he willfully and purposefully trusts in God and obeys his Word. He takes action, he moves forward. He walks like a man.

Thank God for his grace.

Plus, it’s better to walk like a man than to walk like an Egyptian (with all due respect to Egyptian men)!
