Grace quotes

Pastor Randy Smith has assembled a wonderful collection of quotes on a diversity of topics related to Christianity and the Christian life. HT: Tim Challies.

Does this seem ominous to anybody?

Actually, they’re only predicting 6-8 inches at this point. Click the image for full-size.

The phantom time hypothesis

At the moment, this is fascinating to me. I don’t buy any of it, but it is fascinating. Ooh, David Rohl and the Jehovah’s Witnesses are mentioned too.

Week Four

End of the fourth week of the diet(s), first week on the new diet. Lost about four pounds, was rarely hungry. Exercised more. Kind of weak now, but that’s because of a virus, I think, not because of diet. Not much else to report at the moment.

Sovereign Grace Blog

Hm, looks like C.J. Mahaney has his own blog now. (This is in addition to his blogging “duties” over at T4G.)

This “messy human business”

In response to a friend asking about New Testament canon issues:
The “messy human business” (I like that phrase, it’s a good description of what people think) of the Canon is a fairly recent development in the history of unbelief, and it takes advantage of people’s lack of historical training and gullibility. (I’m going to [...]

Challies on John Adams

Tim Challies on John Adams:
John Adams loved life and sought to truly enjoy it. Even in his final days, when he was ill and suffering from fading eyesight, he continued to enjoy his life. He loved sharing life with others. He was content to live a simple life consumed with hard work and lots of [...]

Who is the decider?

Jeremy Pierce has a few brief notes on a point made in the second edition of D.A. Carson’s How Long, O Lord? Reflections on Suffering and Evil. (By the way, Pierce has a review the first edition of the book here.)

Sinim Books

Monergism Books has opened a brand new division of their Reformed Christian bookstore called Sinim Books “for the edification of the Chinese Christian community.” Apparently, it’s possible that “Sinim” is the Hebrew (transliterated) word for “China” (cf. Isa. 49:12). I’m sure this is due in large measure to John Hendryx’s abiding love for [...]

“A Cumulative Case for the Resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth”

See here for Timothy and Lydia McGrew’s paper on the resurrection of Jesus Christ entitled, “A Cumulative Case for the Resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth” (PDF). From what I understand, it should be published soon in the next edition of The Blackwell Companion to Natural Theology which is edited by J. P. Moreland and [...]

God is our reward

From “The Weight of Glory” by C.S. Lewis:
If you asked twenty good men today what they thought the highest of the virtues, nineteen of them would reply, Unselfishness. But if you asked almost any of the great Christians of old he would have replied, Love. You see what has happened? A negative term has been [...]

Be content

From John MacArthur:
Be content. We may be discontented about ourselves and about our circumstances. But who made us? God. And He promises to supply all our needs. When we are content, we acknowledge God’s sovereignty in our lives, and that gives Him glory. If we are discontented, it’s the same as questioning God’s wisdom. That [...]

Premed curriculum

For my own reference, here are a couple of posts on tweaking the premed curriculum: 1 and 2.

Don’t say goodbye

Sarah Jane is making an appearance in Series Four. Is there anybody who has appeared in the recent past who won’t be in Series Four? Adam? Lynda with a Y? That couple who were getting married in “Father’s Day”? They could just bring back Mel from the Six/Seven days and [...]

A slice of heaven?

How cool is this?! A co-worker tells me of a little grocery store called the Global Foods Market that sells foods from all over the world! I may have to drop by and check it out.

Synthetic genome

“Scientists have built the first synthetic genome by stringing together 147 pages of letters representing the building blocks of DNA.”

AOMin goes through its once-per-decade redesign

Let’s everyone welcome Alpha and Omega Ministries to Web… um… I don’t know, what would this be, 1.1? Seriously, the redesign looks great.

Candice Watters praying boldly

Hm, it sounds like Candice Watters is doing a good work for the kingdom.

Your Disease Risk

One of the world’s finest medical schools, WashU, has a resource called Your Disease Risk:
Welcome to Your Disease Risk, the source on prevention. Here, you can find out your risk of developing five of the most important diseases in the United States and get personalized tips for preventing them.

Week Three

At the end of the third week, I lost two more pounds. Wow, it’s getting slow. And harder to do this. I have introduced exercise (running, walking) into the daily routine, and it doesn’t seem to be having much of an effect (which actually makes sense, given what I’ve been reading lately, [...]
