Some rumors re: the plot of Star Trek XI.
Speaking of scifi flicks, why doesn’t someone make a proper Doctor Who movie as well?

It’ll flop.
Which will flop, Star Trek, or Patrick’s proposed Who movie?
There have been two Doctor Who movies on film, and one that was made for TV. The movies on film are Dr. Who and the Daleks and Daleks’ Invasion Earth: 2150 AD.
Those movies are so far out of continuity, they’re like Highlander 2.
The made-for-TV one is the one that comprises the entire canonical career of the eighth Doctor, played by Paul McGann. It was OK, I guess.
On the other hand, I would like to have seen Peter Cushing become a real regeneration of the Doctor.
I’d say both movies would flop, but I think I know better. It sounds like the Dr. Who movie wouldn’t make it very far considering past performances. It may also be a bit ‘out there’ for the general movie going audience.
There are several British thespians who I hold in high regard, particularly those who cut their teeth on Shakespeare. I mean, I’d love to see someone like Kenneth Branagh or Derek Jacobi play the Doctor. That’d be so awesome!
I don’t think Jacobi can play the Doctor. He already had a role in Season Three. (Which you will get to finish, when you move.)
It was a great role, but not long enough. I do think he could have been a good Doctor. I don’t think Branagh could be a good Doctor, though. Hard to explain why.
I don’t know, what about Branagh in his Wild Wild West persona (aka Dr. Arliss Loveless)?
hee hee.
That would be pretty cool. Although I think he’d have to widen the TARDIS door to fit his steam powered wheelchair.
Then when people comment on his southern accent, he can say, “Most planets have a south.”
OK. I’m probably the only one who will think this comment is funny. Oh well.
Ooh, I had forgotten about Branagh in WWWest.
He’s about the only American-ish person I would consider to qualify, come to think of it (now that you’ve given me some perspective). But he’d have to be a very dark Doctor, like Six or Seven ended up being, to make it work.
