I did it!
With just over three hours to spare (and 90 words).
The book is far from done. Two of the four plot lines were left completely dangling in the middle. And one looked like it was over, but just joined up with the fourth one.
What is it about fiction? I always start [...]

Being sick for five days has probably taken me out of the running. I haven’t updated more than 900 words in the last week. I’d have to kick in about 8000 words today, and the same tomorrow, to finish. And I still have a job.
But I think I will try anyway. [...]
“AT&T quietly rolls out reasonably-priced unbundled DSL.”
For what it’s worth, if anything, I’m on Twitter now.
Most memorable song from West Side Story, in my opinion.
I just have one thing to say to spammers.
“She will love you more than any other guy” is ambiguous. The question is, do you mean “She will love you more than she loves any other guy,” or “she will love you more than any other guy will love you?”
If you’re going to attempt to [...]
Mark Pilgrim: The Future of Reading (a play in six acts).
A recovering feminist weighs in on the real problem with feminism.
Hi Friends,
Whoa, so these “dating coaches” are apparently charging in the thousands of dollars to critique their clients on all sorts of things related to dating.
However, because you, dear reader, are my friend, I will only charge in the hundreds of dollars to do the same, i.e. tell you what I really think about your [...]
Several days ago, I had posted a link to John Frame’s article/sermon “Marriage As Unjust Suffering” but subsequently deleted it. Now I’m reposting it because I noticed that Joe Carter over at the Evangelical Outpost had decided to link to the Frame piece — and if it’s good enough for Joe, then it’s good [...]
After checking out these top 25 celebrity Miis, I “suppose” I should give Valerie “some” credit for having created a somewhat “decent” Mii of me. At least I can still beat her at the Wii boxing game though.
For what it’s worth, I’ve excerpted a piece by Mark Liederbach on Christians and the use of contraceptives over at Tblog. Make sure to check out the combox, too.
I’d like to write a quick note to a particular person who happens to corrupt frequent our weblog from time to time. (This person shall remain nameless in order to protect the guilty.)
But, first, please allow me to describe this person. For starters, he/she is sick and twisted. That should be clear [...]
Interesting, if potentially scary stuff.
On a slightly related note, I’m fascinated with radiology as a medical specialty. However, it’s a difficult specialty to enter, and I’m sure I don’t have the intellectual chops for it.
Some rumors re: the plot of Star Trek XI.
Speaking of scifi flicks, why doesn’t someone make a proper Doctor Who movie as well?
I put a new poll up on the sidebar, for what it’s worth.
I’ve cleared 25000 words, with two days to spare to the midpoint of the month.
I was going to be rather proud of my achievement, until I noticed that Calvindude is about 5000 words away from the end. Zowie.
In other news, though, I think that I’m just wrapping up the first act, but I don’t [...]
Things I wish I would have learned about before starting a novel about aliens saving the world from an asteroid (it’s better than it sounds, I think):
Volcanic ash composition
The irregularity of the moon’s orbit, and what would happen if the orbit became more elliptical
Metal composition of the core and mantle of our planet
Likely weather patterns [...]
Daniel at Doulogos has a long (not unreasonably long, it’s a tough subject to discuss in many quarters) post on particular redemption (aka “limited atonement”) that is pretty good reading, particularly for those who don’t believe in that particular point of Calvinism. Read the whole thing.
