Time-out

Way back when, if memory serves, Charlie used to have something like a category for “free ideas.” These were ideas which crossed his mind throughout the course of a day that he would post online for others to entertain.

I don’t know if the following qualifies, but I’ll throw it out here anyway, and hope someone writes a story out of this (if you do, please let me know; I’d love to read it):

Write a story about a man (or woman) who has somehow come into possession of some object which allows him to freeze time. However, the cost of using this object to pause time is he himself ages on an order of one year for every hour paused (rather, each hour that would have been paused). Or something along those lines.

Wherefore he can freeze time and get away with robbery. Or murder another human being. Or whatever else his heart desires.

But will it be worth it to him? Would pausing time for a few hours to do whatever he’d like to do be worth his body aging three or four years? Will age finally catch up to him?

How are the little trinkets people collect in life to be compared to life itself? Is there any comparison in the first place?

Or if the man were in a position to do a good deed (such as pausing time to save another’s life), would he trade that moment for several years of life?

Etc.
